Necropsy Profiles for Rodent Health Monitoring

Comprehensive Rodent Necropsy Profile (1st quarter testing):

Gross necropsy

Serology (comprehensive for each species)

Microbiology (NP and cecal cultures)

Parasitology (tape test, subgross pelage exam, subgross exam of cecal contents, direct fecal smear)

Histopathology (target organs for each species plus any lesioned organs)

Basic (3rd quarter testing) and Clinical (2nd and 4th quarter testing) Rodent Necropsy Profiles:

Gross necropsy

Serology (basic or clinical profile, respectively, for each species)

Parasitology (tape test, subgross pelage exam, subgross exam of cecal contents)

Histopathology (lesioned organs only)

Serology:

Mouse:
Clinical: MHV, Sendai, MVM, MPV, EDIM, TMEV (GDVII), M. pulmonis

Basic: add PVM, Reo-3, LCM

Comprehensive: add Ectromelia, Polyoma, MAD-1, MAD-2, Tyzzer’s, E. cuniculi

Comprehensive Plus: add CARB, LDEV, MCMV

Rat:
Clinical: RCV/SDAV, Sendai, KRV, PVM, M. pulmonis

Basic: add H-1, Reo-3, LCM, Hantaan

Comprehensive: add TMEV, MAD-1, Tyzzer’s, E. cuniculi

Hamster/Guinea pig:
Clinical: Sendai, PVM

Basic: add Reo-3, LCM, SV5

Target organs:
Mouse: lung, trachea*, liver, kidney, GI tract

Rat: lung, trachea*, liver, kidney, urinary bladder, GI tract, salivary glands, Harderian glands

Gerbil: lung, trachea, liver, kidney, GI tract, brain

Hamster: pelage (flank region), lung, liver, kidney, GI tract

Guinea pig: lung, liver, kidney, GI tract, skeletal muscle, salivary glands

* For comprehensive mouse and rat necropsy profiles add Steiner’s stain of trachea

Comprehensive: add Tyzzer’s, E. cuniculi
